How to Tell Whether a Pakistan Government Website Is Official
A domain and source-checking guide for verifying Pakistani government websites before using online services.
An official-looking logo is not enough to prove that a website belongs to a government agency. Use the domain, cross-links and primary-source references together.
Begin with the Government of Pakistan portal
pakistan.gov.pk provides links to federal institutions and public services. If you are unsure where a service belongs, this is a useful starting point for identifying the responsible department.
Read the full domain from right to left
The important part of a web address is the registered domain. A name that merely contains a government acronym before an unrelated domain is not the same as a government-controlled domain. Check spelling carefully and do not rely on the page title shown by a search engine.
Use agency authenticity statements when available
Some institutions publish explicit instructions about their real domains. NADRA, for example, identifies nadra.gov.pk as its official domain and lists authorized subdomains. Similar primary-source statements are stronger evidence than an unofficial directory.
Check whether other official pages link to it
A genuine government service is often linked from the parent ministry, a government portal, an official press release or a verified agency page. Cross-linking helps confirm that a specialized subdomain is part of the same institution.
Look for current notices, not just branding
An official site should normally contain current agency material such as notifications, contacts, laws, tenders, program pages or dated news. An old copied landing page with no institutional trail deserves more scrutiny.
For applications, stop if the destination changes unexpectedly
Before submitting information, confirm that the final page still belongs to the expected government or authorized service. If a link moves to an unrelated domain with no explanation from the agency, return to the official site and navigate again.
